Update!
Hello friends!
Hannah here, I am going to try to update all that’s happened in the last few months or so. Been a bit crazy around here for sure, but God is GOOD!
We had been looking for work in Alaska for about 3 years and actually had jobs twice but they fell through. Some friends of ours in Alaska actually found a job here for Jared and he happily accepted it. There is another whole story of God’s leading wrapped up in that job and others but I’ll share that another time.
LEAVING WASHINGTON
In Washington, we repainted our home, put down all new flooring, remodeled the bathroom, and a bunch of needed updating. That was a hard choice to make putting our family home on market. Jared’s family had lived there for 4 generations, and we had planned on passing it down to our own children. Due to some state politics, we could not continue to live there and keep our same outdoor lifestyle of hunting, fishing, trail riding, etc. Between new gun laws and new state health laws it was time to go, our children don’t have much of a future in Wa unless laws change, Inslee is voted out or they move as well.
As I said it was a hard decision to make but we did it. We left the house in Pacific Beach on March 9th headed “North to Alaska”! We stopped overnight just south of Sumas, WA to have dinner with the kids and say goodbye, then the next morning crossed the border into Canada.
CANADA
Canada was an interesting week of travel to say the least. Due to the fact that we are not jabbed with c19, we were not sure we could cross. I did a TON of research and from everything I found we could due to Jared having a job waiting for him in Alaska so we were under “essential travel” status. I read a ton of horror stories and reviews though so we were both very nervous. Once we arrived at the crossing, the agent was incredibly rude and seemed to think we were smuggling guns through. We showed all our paperwork and shipping receipts for our hunting rifles and pistols but it didn’t seem to matter. They decided to search us and though I had tried very hard to be very careful and follow all the rules I was still scared, lol. We camp and hunt with our trailer so there had been ammo laying around from hunting trips etc. that we cleaned out the trailer. We must have done a good job as they let us go almost 2 hours later once they realized we were not smuggling anything, lol.
The entire way through Canada it was crazy with SO MANY rules and penalties. The people simply were not friendly generally speaking (yes, there were a some nice folks, but not many), not sure if it’s a culture thing, because we are Americans, COVID, I don’t know. I thanked God when we crossed back over into good ‘ol USofA! Wowzers! When I think of where America was, where she is today, where she is headed, and spend a week in a different country…..YIKES! Canada is not socialistic on paper, but they are not far from it and the USA is not far behind. God have mercy on us!
ALASKA
In a nutshell – We were headed to Wasilla in the first place, then Jared accepted a job in Glennallen, then he had to turn it down, then he went back to the job he had in the first place in Wasilla, lol. Let me explain just a little.
Have you ever went somewhere and you simply got a bad feeling about the place? Might be because there is something wrong there or it is God telling you that’s not where He wants you to be. Either way, we stayed in Glennallen over night and just felt something was off. We chalked it up to tiredness and went on to spend some time in Willow while waiting for the paperwork to get done. We headed back out a few days later to get a post office box and check on some rentals for housing. That heavy, creepy feeling came back as soon as we entered town. We went ahead and opened a PObox, and checked on housing but everywhere we looked either wouldn’t work for us or we both felt like God was saying no. We drove back the 3 hours to Wasilla and discussed what each of us had felt and our thoughts on it. We had both already come to the conclusion that that was not a place we wanted to live or raise our daughter, it just felt wrong somehow. We have learned to listen to our instincts a long time ago so it was back to Wasilla for us.
NOW WHAT
Well, what now? Lol, that is still a question! We know we are following God’s plan and – though we have many questions – are content to let Him lead. As of now, we are waiting for our home in WA to sell, Jared is working at Wasilla Concrete and we are staying in our trailer at a RV park. Jessica is back to homeschooling, making a bunch of likeminded new friends and riding her quad around the many trails with Kimber. I am learning to slow down a bit, lol, which is very hard! I am privileged to be a stay-at-home mom now for the first time ever. Not sure Jessica is has happy about it as I am. I have a ton of plans when we finally get into a house. We have plans of a greenhouse, smokehouse, possibly another guest house, and a lot more. I also have plans to update our blog page on a weekly basis, but as you all know life sometimes gets in the way, I will try though!
We have made many new friends, getting to know the roads and towns, and life is getting back to state of normalcy for now. That will change again when our home sells and we can buy a home here, then I get to start unpacking the container. We look forward to down the road when we are back in a house and life has settled down again. I am learning though that up here in Alaska to always expect the unexpected and “normal” doesn’t really exist, lol. We love our new home and are looking forward to our future here!
